Theorbo

Rafael Arjona Ruz grew up in a small town of Córdoba (Spain), and he became passionate about the Spanish guitar at a very young age. Years later, while he was studying for his Musicology degree, he discovered a passionate new world in early music plucked instruments and he specializes mainly in baroque guitar and theorbo. He developed his performative musical skills at Granada, Sevilla at the Royal Conservatory, Den Haag, working with prestigious musicians such as Antonio Duro, Zoran Dukic, Mike Fentross or Joachim Held. This year he starts a new Masters in Musical Performance at Zürich University of Arts, with the lutenist Eduardo Egüez: “In my current stage I hope to reach out not only my best performative quality but also working on exciting and new projects I’ve always wanted to carry out mixing early music with modern scenic proposals”.

He has played with ensembles such as Capella de Ministrers, Forma Antiqva, Netherlands Bach Society, Stradella Young Project or Baroque Orchestra of Seville, among others, as well as in different projects in Spain, The Netherlands, Germany, Italy and Switzerland. He has recently received scholarships from the Baroque Orchestra of Seville, as well as from different private foundations in Switzerland to support his studies and projects.
